Go slow

One mile west of the Belize Barrier Reef and a rather choppy 45 minute boat ride from Belize City (Belize), is the very chilled, very Caribbean island of Caye Caulker. The motto here is 'go slow' and I can see why. There are no cars, only locally-owned businesses and no hassles - just white sandy beaches, azure waters and fresh seafood aplenty. The island was once a favourite stop for sailors to replenish and cork water bottles, and it has retained a small village feel with an authentic cultural flavour. I couldn't stop taking photos of the plantation-style homes on the island.
